There is freedom and peace of mind in the realization that we are never victims of anything; that in some way we are co-creators of it. This is as true of us collectively as it is of us as individuals. Furthermore, to see that whatever it may be, there is a higher power at work within it, is liberating. It is not easy, but the aim here is to rise above any circumstance and ask the question “What is the greater good for me here?” If we are honest we will see how we, in our deepest thoughts, were trying to get to this very place so that we could move forward. Granted, we did not dictate the exact situation, but the outcome, that is of our own making.
When our true self is wanting to be seen and known in a new way and if we are reluctant to let go of current forms, it will find a way to get us there. Some people think of it as lessons from God or the universe, but really it is simply our own soul directing the whole business. As Ernest Holmes wisely noted ‘Life is for us and never against us.’ That makes perfect sense when seen as a necessary component of evolution. Life is about becoming more of itself all the time. Are we Life or are we not?
We think the caterpillar turning into a butterfly is a charming story, but it is our story, too. It is not unusual to be swept up in a challenging circumstance and to feel as if all is lost, only to look back from a distance of time, and see that it was the momentum needed to grow us some wings. We are now more of ourselves and we are stronger, more capable and living on a higher level.
Affirm: “This, too is for my highest good.”
