Habits are sometimes ways of reassuring ourselves that we are in control and safe in this wild universe which is constantly moving and evolving. We place a great deal of value on a fixed idea of Reality. We have created a need that quite possibly does more harm to our mental health than good. We want to feel solid and permanent in this life but that is the last thing we are. Our bodies are energy systems, activated by breath. They are temporary structures that give our Self a way to experience time and space, which is a real treat to the formless Soul.
But we think our body is us and we rush to protect it; to feed it and clothe it and keep it warm or cool as the climate demands, to medicate the fears and ritualize things. While we rightfully care for and tend to its daily needs, there is a paradox here. We must also allow the body to change, to grow, to mutate, as it were, to become some new version of itself. There comes a time, in old age or in sickness, when we must give it back into the field from whence it came. That is the ultimate letting go. The one who has found her/himself outside the body will have little difficulty doing this. They might be a bit nostalgic, but they will not mourn the form.
The closer we are to seeing ourselves as a natural occurrence in the journey of Love and Intelligence, in and out of the invisible realm, the more we can enjoy our time here in the visible. We can relish in the joys and sorrows of human experience. We are more likely to praise change than fear it. We are freer with our compassion and forgiveness. We are more alive when we are not afraid of death.
Just some thoughts in this winter-time of darkness, which is the deepening time.
