We Could Have the Ultimate in Border Security for a Fraction of the Cost of Being the World's Policeman

Why don't the Dems connect reduction in military bases abroad with increased border security? It's a perfect issue uniting the Left and the Right. The Dems are missing the boat if they don't latch on to this issue.They can co-opt Trump who has said as much. Not being the world's policeman doesn't mean that we don't partner with our allies if trouble arises. It just means that they pay their fail share and we work together. However, diplomacy and efforts towards the peaceful resolution of conflicts can go a long way. If we made friends with our enemies, we wouldn't need a Pentagon, but the Pentagon does the opposite. It creates enemies in order to justify its existence. Now the military is talking about hypersonics, a whole new area to spend money on, a whole new program for the Pentagon to justify larger and larger military budgets.
The US creates enemies by bombing the shit out of people and then letting the wounds fester instead of rebuilding those societies. Is it any wonder that half the world's people hate us? If we helped those in poverty instead of bombing them, maybe they would love us instead. If we helped Central America develop economically instead of aiding and abetting every dictator who ruthlessly suppresses the peasants, maybe they all wouldn't want to come here and live the American lifestyle. The internet has enabled them to see how Americans live and what they are missing. That's why they all want to cross the border.
I suspect the Dems want the status quo when it comes to the military and the military-industrial complex. That is they will vote for ever larger defense budgets. We have created more enemies, therefore we need more defense. More defense enables us to bomb more and create more enemies in a never ending cycle. Meanwhile, more and more Americans are homeless. The War on Poverty of the sixties now seems naive. Now it needs to be a War on Homelessness. The US needs to convert its bloated military budget to infrastructure development and helping the American people who need help. Instead it spends more money on the military and helps those who don't need help by giving the rich huge tax cuts.
Let's see how far the Dems get with the Green New Deal, infrastructure development, reducing the number of military bases abroad and beefing up security at the border. It's a whole plateful, but it can be done. All they need to do is to co-opt Trump.
