A Tale of Two Peckers
by John Lawrence, December 14, 2018
One Pecker is singing like a canary over the National Enquirer's hush money payment to Karen McDougal, one of Trump's alleged mistresses in the runup to the 2016 election. The Washington Post put it like this:
The National Enquirer’s parent company acknowledged paying hush money to a woman who alleged an affair with Donald Trump to “suppress the woman’s story” and “prevent it from influencing the election.”
The admission came as federal prosecutors announced Wednesday that they would not prosecute the company, American Media Inc. (AMI), for its role in a scheme to tilt the presidential race in favor of Trump. In the agreement, AMI said it would cooperate with prosecutors and admitted it paid $150,000 to Karen McDougal before the 2016 election to silence her allegations of an affair with Trump.
The deal signaled the unraveling of the deep relationship Trump and AMI chief executive David Pecker had forged over decades. The deal also made clear that Pecker, whose tabloid strongly supported Trump’s candidacy, has turned on the president.
Now I'm just a humble blogger, but it sounds to me that Pecker of the National Enquirer is more culpable for hiding the saga of Trump's pecker related episodes than is Michael Cohen. Not only was Pecker responsible for the "catch and hide" tactics relating to McDougal's alleged affair, but he was dissing Hillary in the National Enquirer by publishing stories damaging to her reputation. Yet he gets off scot free while Cohen gets sentenced to 3 years in Federal prison. It's not fair, I say. The National Enquirer should have been fined so much that it would have been put out of business. It also printed false stories about some of Trump's political rivals like Ted Cruz whom the Enquirer claimed had 5 mistresses. Is this what Freedom of the Press is all about?
While it's dubious how paying hush money presumably out of personal funds is a campaign violation (it definitely would have been if campaign funds had been used), the Feds and the Muellers seem to have Trump by the short hairs. His pecker has never before gotten him into so much trouble. He can "grab 'em by the pussy" all he wants, but it seems like there is often a price to pay for doing so. Ordinary mortals couldn't afford to get away with this. But for Trump it's just his way of doing business. It seems like Pecker and Trump were bedfellows and Trump benefited a lot from the arrangement, but what did Pecker get out of it?
So what now? In the light of these surprising developments which might have cost Hillary enough votes in close state elections to elect Donald Trump, thanks to Pecker's help, will we bring Hillary back and declare her to have rightfully won the election? The most qualified candidate in the history of elections was fucked over by Trump with a huge assist from a Pecker? You can't make this stuff up, folks. As to Trump, Cohen and the rest, they will certainly appeal their cases all the way to the Supreme Court where they will be exonerated by Supreme Court Justices who have been placed there by Trump himself and other Republican Presidents.
