"I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be Russia"
by John Lawrence, July 19, 2018
Oh, the English language and the tangled webs we weave. If there's no reason it wouldn't be Russia, there's no reason it would be either. If there's no reason why it wouldn't be Russia, is there a reason it would be Russia? Trump did not state that so basically what Trump said is it could have been anybody, Russia included. Mangled language will get you off the hook every time. Russia must be smiling slightly because their knowledge of English is somewhat better than the American media's or the American politicians who seem to be assuaged by Trump's non-statement. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be a 400 pound guy sitting on a bed somewhere.
So nobody cares, least of all the American media and American politicians, that Trump had a good and friendly meeting with Vladimir Putin. Friendship between the two world leaders who, between them, have enough nuclear weapons to destroy the world 100 times over seems not to matter to them. All that matters is what they keep obsessing on - they meddled in our election They did to us what we've been doing to the rest of the world for decades. Oh, but we have a right to do it and they don't. What good is it to be the world's only superpower if they can get away with stuff that only we are allowed to do. Like Nixon said or to paraphrase, when the US does it, it is not a crime.
Trump said that Russia will help with North Korea. Now that's really news. The American media ignored it. They just want Putin to get down on his knees and grovel with Trump standing over him saying, "You're fired, you lowly sonufabitch." Trump on the other hand treats Putin with respect, the same way he treated Kim Jong Un. Instead of demanding compliance with US wishes, Trump seems to be willing to meet foreign leaders half way. This is the only way any peace process can get started - mutual respect. But American politicians can't stand the thought of any American President treating other world leaders with respect. Of course, Trump hasn't exactly treated our NATO allies with a lot of respect. But they're not going to turn on us any minute. We're safe for now.
I think Trump's willingness to engage foreign leaders, whom the US defense establishment has taken pains to characterize as our enemies, is perhaps the best thing, perhaps the only good thing, he has done with his Presidency. Creating peace in the world is a noble aspiration, but will never be cheered on by the US political-military establishment which will lose funding if there are more friendly and peaceful relations among nations.
