Trump's Art of the Backstabbing Deal
by John Lawrence, January 23, 2018
The media complained, "Where was the deal maker in all the brou ha ha leading up to the government shutdown." They just don't understand. Trump's art of dealing means getting things his way and his way is telling the Dreamers "My Way and for you the Highway." Despite what he says, which means nothing, he wants the Dreamers deported. So he got the can kicked down the road for another three weeks. One more kick of the can and Bingo: off go the Dreamers to dream in their parents' native lands.
Trump will stab them and Chuck Schumer in the back in a New York minute. His base will cheer and Trump will gloat. This is the kind of deal that Trump makes - not one that benefits Chuck Schumer or Nancy Pelosi. Trump's base wants the Dreamers deported. Why? Because they were one of Obama's pet projects. And we know that anything Obama did was illegal and morally reprehensible. The Dreamers must go just to show how much we are cracking down on illegal immigration.
What does it say in the Bible? That the sins of the father must be visited upon the children for two or more generations. Trump is just carrying out Biblical encomiums when he insists that the sins of the mother be visited on the children. The children must suffer because the mothers brought them here illegally. What part of illegal do they not understand?
If the Democrats have any backbone whatsoever, they will let the government shut down in three weeks until they finally get their own way and the Dreamers can relax. Their whole credibility as a viable political party depends on that. Congress will dither for three weeks until the showdown. The Democrats must hang tough. Trump will say one thing one day, the opposite the next. In the final analysis, Mitch McConnell will pull the nuclear option so as to emasculate the Democratic filibuster, and the Democrats will go along with it because they are nicer people.
