New Gun Technology Will Let Anyone Print a Gun
by John Lawrence, August 18, 2018
3-D printing was supposed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread or beer in cans. Yet we find that one of the major uses of it is to print out handguns and AR-15s. So now everyone who wants a gun can have one. These plastic guns have no serial numbers and so can not be traced. They can easily go through security at airports and other places. MNetal detectors can't detect them. What's next? Plastic detectors?
One guy is even putting the plans on the internet so now every enterprising 8 year old can make his or her own gun. Isn't that grand? It gives free speech a bad name. First of all it shouldn't be allowed to put the plans on the internet. That free speech should be curtailed.
In a sane society the benign uses of technology should be encouraged and the malign uses should be verboten. Whoever is running this or any society should steer it in the right direction and not just let it proceed willy nilly. These guns will use real bullets and will kill people just like conventionally built guns.
